Do Apostilles Expire? What You Need to Know

Understand how long apostilles are valid—and when it’s time to update your documents.

Technically, an apostille certificate does not expire. However, some receiving countries or organizations may require that the underlying document (e.g., background check, court record) is recent—often within 3 to 6 months.

That means even though your apostille is valid, the document it’s attached to might not meet current requirements.

If you’re applying for a visa, job, or school overseas, timing is critical. At Bloomington Notary, we can help you decide when to start the process and whether your documents meet current standards.
